At Sovereign, we’re committed to protecting the environment and keeping Nelson Mandela Bay beautiful. That’s why we’re throwing our support behind the clean-up of the Baakens River Valley. This project has the support of the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber and is a joint undertaking by several companies including Sovereign, Algoa FM, Remos, Tavcor, RC Construction, and Randcivils.

The clean-up began on 30 May where six truckloads of junk and litter was collected on the first day including couches, mattresses, and fridges. The operation is ongoing, with good progress being made, and will likely last three months. The dedicated ground crew is already using a giant Pulfinger 750 crane to lift large debris out of the valley, and a drone crane will soon be used help clean areas that are difficult to reach.

Clearing up the dangerous, unsightly rubbish and restoring the valley to its natural beauty is only the first step. Fencing will also be installed along the perimeter to prevent further dumping. All of this is working towards the greater vision of uplifting the area into a thriving tourist attraction.

Valley of Dreams Music Festival organiser, Dante Cicognini, has spearheaded the initiative and expressed his positivity about the project, “By securing the necessary funding and support, we believe that we can transform Nelson Mandela Bay’s green lung into a safe, vibrant, and sustainable space that benefits the entire community.”

Sovereign is dedicated to working together to keep our beautiful country clean and creating shared green spaces that are #FullOfGoodness.
